Four stops on Biscayne Bay: birds, billionaires and raccoons

1/3

One boat, 4.5 hours, the whole bay

The Ultimate Boat Tour leaves Venetian Marina near downtown and trades the skyline for the wild side of Biscayne Bay — dolphins alongside the hull, manatees surfacing, and a guide narrating the bay's fragile ecosystem as you go. First stop is Bird Island, a rookery busy with herons, pelicans and egrets. Then the boat slides past Indian Creek Island — the "Billionaire's Bunker" of Tom Brady and Julio Iglesias fame — before kayaks come off the deck at Sandspur Island for a paddle through shaded mangrove tunnels.

The finale is Raccoon Island: a calm lagoon ringed by mangroves where the famously friendly residents usually show up for photos. Swim, snorkel, hunt for shells, or stay aboard in the shade with music and the view. Back on deck there's fresh pineapple, watermelon and mango with cold drinks for the cruise home. Children under 2 ride free.
