From fish market to festival stage

The Rooftop sits atop Pier 17, the flagship of the Seaport — home of the Port of New York's shipping, maritime trade and wholesale fish market in the 19th century, and the district that gave birth to the phrase 'the city that never sleeps.' Today the pier below holds a covetable waterfront dining row: Jean-Georges Vongerichten's The Fulton, Andrew Carmellini's Carne Mare and Mister Dips, and the reimagined Tin Building, rebuilt with roughly 300 items from the original Fulton Fish Market structure. Between the historic ships of the South Street Seaport Museum and a lightband façade that colors the night, the venue is a cultural landmark before the first note plays.
