The mezze table

Start with the dips
The dip section is where a Lebanese table gets built. Homemade hummus, plain or topped with grilled beef as hummus bilahme. Baba ghanoush of smoke-grilled eggplant with sesame oil and lemon juice. Muhammara that works red bell pepper, walnuts, breadcrumbs and pomegranate molasses into one bowl. Labne with olive oil, and fatte — sour-sweet yogurt under sliced almonds and fried pita chips. Can't pick? The mixed dips plate lets you choose any three or four favorites. From there the appetizer list keeps going: grape leaves and cabbage leaves stuffed with rice and beef, falafel with tahini, basterma, and toshka — pita with kafta meat and cheese.
