Change happens outside the comfort zone

The Lagree Method is built around muscle exhaustion, which happens when muscles are under constant tension — no rest — and worked outside their comfort zone. If your body isn't changing, it may be because it isn't being challenged. The method focuses on the slow twitch muscle fibers most training under-uses: you move very slowly through each exercise, feeling every inch you move and every second that passes, with total awareness of your body. There is no momentum and no impact on the joints, only specific and controlled contraction. The only thing done fast in class is the transition from one position to the next, so muscles never get to rest until they are maxed out. One 45-minute session works the entire body — muscle endurance, core strength, cardio benefits, better balance and increased flexibility. You'll leave sweaty and euphoric, and satisfyingly sore the next day.

Lagree vs Pilates, answered

Is this the same as a Pilates class?

The Megaformer was inspired by the Pilates Reformer more than 25 years ago, but has been evolved into a multi-functional body-building machine. Like Pilates, Lagree focuses on core stability and postural alignment — but it is full body, so you also strengthen legs, glutes, arms and back, and your core works in every single exercise.

How intense is it?

Lagree is high intensity, versus a low intensity Pilates class. Your heart rate goes up into your cardio zone, which adds fat burning and cardiovascular benefit on top of the strength work.

What does a class actually look like?

Functional, real-life positions — squatting, lunging, bending, twisting. You spend most of class standing or kneeling and engaging multiple muscle groups at once, rather than lying down as is typical of a Pilates class.

Do I need to be fit already?

No. All levels are welcome. Instructors can modify or advance any exercise and can accommodate minor injuries or major goals — just arrive early to chat with your instructor before class.
