Forty seasons of unbridled beats

Shoreline Amphitheatre debuted in the summer of 1986, originally scheduled to open with the Grateful Dead — the show was canceled due to Jerry Garcia's health, but the Dead returned in 1987 and have played this stage 39 times since. In 1991 Shoreline was a stop on the very first Lollapalooza tour, with Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, RHCP, The Smashing Pumpkins and A Tribe Called Quest on the bills. And Neil and Pegi Young's Bridge School Benefit made the venue its October home, drawing all-acoustic sets from Elton John, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Jack White and Tony Bennett.
