Smuggler's Cove
Rum and exotic cocktail destination at 650 Gough Street — over 1,400 rums and cocktails from three centuries of rum history.
650 Gough Street · San Francisco
Since opening its doors in 2009, Smuggler's Cove has established itself as one of the top rum and exotic cocktail destinations in the world: traditional drinks of the Caribbean islands, classic libations of Prohibition-era Havana, and exotic cocktails from legendary tiki bars. The bar features the largest rum selection in the United States and a menu drawn from over three centuries of rum history, with house-made ingredients and 100% fresh citrus juiced in-house daily. The three-level interior — vintage tiki artifacts alongside historic nautical and rum décor — was brought to life by local designer Ignacio "Notch" Gonzalez of Top Notch Kustoms. Owner Martin Cate is a rum and exotic cocktail expert and, with Rebecca Cate, author of the James Beard Award-winning book "Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki".

About the Cove
A dramatic escape from the hustle of the city
Since opening its doors in 2009, Smuggler's Cove has established itself as one of the top rum and exotic cocktail destinations in the world — traditional drinks of the Caribbean islands, classic libations of Prohibition-era Havana, and exotic cocktails from legendary tiki bars, all built on the largest rum selection in the United States. The stunning interior pairs vintage tiki artifacts with historic nautical and rum décor, brought brilliantly to life by local designer Ignacio "Notch" Gonzalez of Top Notch Kustoms.
Owner Martin Cate is a rum and exotic cocktail expert who conducts seminars and officiates rum and cocktail competitions across the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. With his wife Rebecca Cate he wrote "Smuggler's Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki" (Ten Speed Press, 2016) — winner of the 2017 James Beard Foundation Book Award.
