Mountain Palace
Yamashiro translates as “Mountain Palace”
In 1911 the Bernheimer brothers began construction of a hilltop mansion to house their collection of Asian treasures, bringing hundreds of craftsmen in to recreate a palace from the “Yamashiro” province mountains near Kyoto, Japan. It was completed in 1914 and sits 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard. Glass windows added to the front of the building turned the residence into a dining room with the city laid out below it, and the open-air courtyard at the centre still holds a pond and koi that are roughly 60 years old.

Remodeling in 2017 brought back a wooden cherry blossom design, custom made for Yamashiro's 100th anniversary.
